Organisational Development Lead (Fixed Term Contract)

We are seeking an OD Lead to join our team on a 12 month fixed-term basis. Embedded within the Organisational Development (OD) team in DeepMind’s People and Culture team, the OD Lead is responsible for a team who provide thought partnership and project leadership across a range of P&C related topics.

You will partner closely with teams and leaders across DeepMind to create the optimum environment for performance towards achieving our mission. You will advise and act as a thought-partner on a variety of organisational strategy, organisational structure and P&C topics, collaborating with and taking direction from other members of the team to drive delivery of assigned projects.

Managing a team of 3 Organisational Development Partners, and 3 Talent and Leadership Development Partners you will provide:

  • Mentoring and oversight of their projects, ensuring our culture represents the values of the organisation.
  • Development of their individual and collective performance.
  • Prioritisation of their workload in line with organisational goals.

Responsibilities

  • Strengthening the People Management capability across our organisation.
  • Leading cultural change programmes, such as hybrid working and inclusive team environments.
  • Developing our talent philosophy, improving our ability to identify, incentivise, develop and retain our critical talent.
  • Leading our annual performance evaluation and promotion cycles.
  • Growing our Org Dev consultancy portfolio, partnering with P&C Partners, Managers and Org Leaders on Org Dev solutions at both org or team levels.
  • Partnering with senior leaders on strategic growth opportunities through M&A activity, new geographical location set up, or spin off company set ups.
  • Strategically and proactively manage a very complex and ever-changing calendar of meetings, conference calls, interviews appointments, across numerous time zones and different office locations
  • Supporting with operational tasks and processes; suggesting ideas for continuous improvement to increase efficiencies
  • Collate and prepare a daily briefing document for the VP, tracking actions and outputs, in partnership with the team
  • Meeting support - circulating agendas, capturing notes and ensuring actions are followed up on and are completed.  Ensure meeting roles, agendas and briefing documentation are in place for each meeting
  • Develop a strong working relationship with the VP and their current Assistant, thinking ahead, handling priorities, anticipating needs and future challenges, proposing solutions to enable effective decision-making
  • Understanding of the key stakeholders; build and maintain effective working relationships across the whole organisation
  • Partner on key strategic projects with the Team of the VP and wider stakeholders
  • Draft and send out team communications
  • Organise and execute internal and external events for business and team events e.g. off-sites, lunches, talks, seminars, visitors
  • Arrange frequent domestic and international travel for meetings, international office visits and speaking engagements e.g. hotel reservations, flight check-in, visas, detailed travel itineraries and overseas transport
  • Financial administration e.g. compile expense claims, approve purchase order requests, contract creation, reimbursements, etc.
  • Act as a point of contact for the VP and team, dealing with incoming requests, requiring heavy email correspondence

Job Requirements

  • You are an established HR or OD professional, with extensive experience creating and implementing people related change programmes.
  • Organisational development and design experience, you are able to lead teams from diagnostic through to a roadmap for delivery.
  • Extensive people management experience, you support the development of pioneering professionals.
  • You have proven experience of collaborating as part of a wider project team on a shared topic, using your knowledge to help design, plan and implement solutions.
  • You have experience aligning people practices to fulfil business strategy, and where necessary building innovative HR practices and frameworks yourself.
  • You have knowledge of HR topics and practices, and ideally you will also have some understanding of organisational psychology.
  • As an advisor and coach, you have the courage to challenge decisions that pursue short-term goals at the expense of the overall health of the company.
  • You are an excellent communicator, bringing others along with you.
  • You have strong stakeholder management and influencing skills.
  • You are open and curious, listening to feedback from others and adjusting your plans based on challenges that arise along the way.
  • You are organised, and comfortable working dynamically, balancing many different tasks at varying levels of detail.
  • You act with confidence and instil trust in everyone you interact with, delivering well thought through solutions - if you don’t know the answer you are tenacious in finding out.
  • Create a culture where your team can operate independently, whilst seeking out opportunities to collaborate. You role model the sharing of information and demonstrate that succeed or fail, we do so as a team.
