About the role
The rapid acceleration of data, digital and AI capabilities and strategies across Anglicare is mission critical in revolutionising our ability to serve our diverse and vulnerable communities.
The Senior Data Scientist will be a core member of the Tiger Teams, delivering advanced analytics and machine learning solutions that drive business value and mission impact across aged care, retirement living, and social initiatives. Reporting to the GM, Digital & Data, this role transforms raw data into predictive insights, intelligent tools, and AI-driven capabilities.
In addition to leading the development of bespoke analytical models, this role also guides the strategic application of generative AI and large language models (LLMs). The Senior Data Scientist identifies opportunities for high-value use cases, designs experiments, evaluates model performance, and collaborates with engineering colleagues to bring AI solutions into secure, scalable production.
This role is central to the organisation’s ambition to evolve to a truly data-augmented decision-making environment.
This role leads the experimentation and application of analytics, machine learning, and AI across the organisation, and is a key driver of our data innovation capability.

Key Skills
Strong proficiency in Python and/or R (preference for Python) for data science and ML workflows.
Advanced statistical modelling and machine learning (classification, regression, clustering, NLP, time series).
Deep expertise in foundational mathematics, especially statistical theory, hypothesis testing, inference, and uncertainty quantification.
Experience with IaC, containerisation and orchestration (docker swarm, Dapr, Kubernetes, Terraform)
Experience with generative AI tools and frameworks (e.g., Azure OpenAI, Langchain, PyTorch, scikit-learn).
Familiarity with deploying or integrating models in real-world settings (dashboards, APIs, applications, agentic pipelines).
Excellent data storytelling and stakeholder engagement skills.
Understanding of responsible AI principles, particularly in aged care or health data contexts.
Qualifications & Experience
Master’s or PhD in Data Science, Machine Learning, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or related field.
5+ years of experience in applied data science roles, ideally with cross-functional or business-facing responsibilities.
Demonstrated impact through predictive model development, deployment, and measurable business value.
Exposure to MLOps, collaborative development tools, and model evaluation techniques.
Experience with generative AI tools and frameworks and a track record of applying them in practical settings is highly regarded.
Experience in mission-driven organisations or domains such as healthcare, aged care, or social impact is advantageous.
