Senior Staff Mechanical Engineer, Thermal

We are looking for a  Subject Matter Expert (SME), In the field of Thermal Analysis  to join our team. As part of a Mechanical Engineering team, you will be responsible for performing thermal design and analysis tasks for multiple mechanical systems powering Wisk’s next-generation eVTOL aircraft.


Responsibilities

  • Provide technical guidance to the team in the field of thermal analysis
  • For the area of thermal analysis, review and approve deliverables (including sign-off) for technical quality for gate reviews and engineering release process
  • Review any failures/abnormal behaviors and perform robust Root Cause and Corrective Action, including but not limited to, manufacturing & flight test issues
  • Collaborate with the functional leaders on processes and tools while supporting trade studies as required
  • Establish standards for proficiency for individuals practicing area of expertise and identify training and development resources
  • Technology development roadmaps: develop strategic vision for the function in the company, involves understanding of where the industry is heading in regards to the function
  • Work with test, system safety and certification teams to ensure designs meet stringent requirement to achieve FAA type certification
  • Champion development of key technologies and ensure organization remains current in awareness of the state of technology related to area of expertise (participate in trade shows, collaborate with university research, review published tech papers)

Job Requirements

  • BS, MS, or PhD in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Aeronautical Engineering, Physics, or equivalent
  • 12+ years of relevant work experience performing thermal analysis in a new product development environment
  • Prior experience with aircraft certification and aerospace development best practices and standards
  • Proven track record using multiphysics analysis tools such as Star CCM+, ANSYS Fluent, Simscape/Simulink, Amesim, etc
  • Experience setting up new simulation toolchains incorporating models with stakeholders distributed across various Integrated Project Teams
  • Strong understanding of mechanical engineering, heat transfer and fluid dynamics fundamentals, with focus on systems for electric vehicles and/or aircrafts
  • Embrace learning, be curious, organized & methodical and pay attention to detail
