Assumes the responsibilities of the Senior Biomedical Engineer during their absence, conducts initial acceptance testing for hospital equipment, ensuring compliance with various industry standards such as Joint Commission International Accreditation (JCIA), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), American National Standards Institute (ANSI), Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI), UL, and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), responds to maintenance requests hospital-wide, oversees equipment maintenance policy compliance, conducts training sessions for designated users, assists in new equipment purchases and tracking deliveries, implements best practices for safety and preventative maintenance, collaborates with Technicians and Senior Engineers for efficiency and safety, recommends necessary resources, participates in ongoing education, providing constructive feedback to peers, and contributes to service planning and expansion initiatives.

  • Implements and complies with the department’s standards, policies, procedures and protocols as they relate to Biomedical Engineering Services.
  • Bares the same responsibilities as the Senior Biomedical Engineer during holidays and annual leave.
  • Performs the initial acceptance testing for all the hospital medical equipment.
  • Ensures all the hospital’s medical equipment is functioning correctly at all times according to the Joint Commission International Accreditation (JCIA), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), American National Standards Institute (ANSI), Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI), UL, and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards.
  • Answers any medical equipment maintenance request needed throughout the hospital.
  • Ensures the compliance of all medical equipment with the hospital’s preventive and corrective maintenance policy.
  • Prepares and performs the training, demonstrations, and in-services for designated users.
  • Assists in the evaluation and coordination of the purchase of new capital medical equipment.
  • Tracks deliveries for all new capital medical equipment purchases.
  • Assists in securing a safe environment by implementing best practices and Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) scheduling to Emergency Care Research Institute (ECRI)/Joint Commission International Accreditation (JCIA) and other industry standards.
  • Works with the Biomedical Technicians and Senior Biomedical Engineers to ensure optimal efficiency and continuous safe practices.
  • Recommends, and advises the specifications of necessary resources for effective service provision including subcontracted services.
  • Participates in ongoing educational activities related to Biomedical Engineering.
  • Performs the initial acceptance testing for all the hospital medical equipment.
  • Ensures the compliance of all medical equipment with the hospital’s preventive and corrective maintenance policy.
  • Provides peers with constructive feedback regarding their practice.
  • Participates in the planning of new and expansion of existing services.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Biomedical Engineering or equivalent
  • Professional Chartered Engineer preferred

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in Biomedical Engineering with a proven record of diagnostic testing and repairs on a wide range of Medical devices
  • Knowledge of Supervisory Management
  • Knowledge of Medical Purchasing and contract administration
