Senior Staff Composites Manufacturing Engineer

We are looking for a Sr. Staff Composites Manufacturing Engineer to join our team. The goal of an Sr. Staff Composites Manufacturing Engineer at Wisk is to ensure that composites manufacturing processes and definition is developed and sufficient to meet certification requirements for the FAA and AS9100. You will be part of the Manufacturing Engineering team that provides Design for Manufacturability input to design, as well as supports production system development and shop floor activities, from prototyping through high rate production. Additionally, you will be integral to the development of foundational processes and documents for Manufacturing Engineering at Wisk.

Responsibilities

  • Own manufacturing projects from early design phases through introduction to production lines
  • Support manufacturing activities, both internal to Wisk and externally at vendors and potential technical partners
  • Support structural assemblies through aircraft integration, using Wisk determined CAD and PLM tools
  • Work closely with a cross functional project team to develop manufacturing processes, tooling and equipment, procedures, quality control points, inspection plans, etc.
  • Improve manufacturing processes by studying product requirements; researching, designing, modifying, and testing manufacturing methods and equipment
  • Help define and document business processes and best practices to establish foundation for Manufacturing Engineering at Wisk

Job Requirements

  • B.S. in Manufacturing Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or similar experience, with 12+ years of experience; MS or PhD counts towards years of experience
  • 12+ years working as a manufacturing engineer in a production environment, preferably in high-volume composites, aviation/aerospace, and/or automotive
  • Comfortable working with others to create new solutions to problems; able to take experience working in regulated environments and adapt that knowledge to a new type of product and industry
  • Proficient with CAD software (NX Preferred) and laminate definition software (FiberSim preferred)
  • Experience with ply cutting, laser projection software, and hardware
  • Experience with Composite part fabrication: prepreg layup, vacuum bagging, trimming, drilling, surface preparation, structural bonding, ATP/AFP
  • Proficient and safe use of hand and shop tools
  • Experience working with cross functional teams to improve the manufacturability of a product, i.e. Design for manufacturing, while controlling cost and weight
  • Ability to work with the shop floor production team to draft and communicate implementation of laminate design, such as work instructions, ply schedules, etc.
  • Proficient in the use of drafting standards/GD&T; able to interpret or create engineering drawings

Desired:

  • Experience in tool design for complex assemblies, layup and bonding; as well as familiarity with automation
  • Experience with metrology/inspection. Familiarity with equipment such as laser trackers, scanners, and NDI equipment such as ultrasound or thermography
  • Proficient in the fundamentals of industrial engineering, including capacity models, technical writing, time studies, and labor cost forecasting
